June is going to be great month. While there aren’t any national holidays to celebrate, the international knitting community has come up with all sorts of reasons to celebrate being alive and knitting, and the Rock Vandals have every intention of getting in on the good times.
In fact we’re hoping to drag you along with us! Seeing as Twillingate is the beating heart of Newfoundlands knitfitti movement, it seems only natural that it be the site of a Worldwide Knit in Public Day event. Twillingates inaugural WWKIP Day will take place June 13 from 2-4 at the Anchor Inn, Captains Pub. All too often we knit in solitude, so this will be a lovely opportunity to get together, have a yarn and ultimately knit our communities together.
There will be limited supplies for a Rock Vandals community art project (instructions provided day of) so grab your needles and come early to secure your spot. If you participated in the Knit and Yoga retreat, we will be carrying on with the “simpler, red & white” project so please bring your work to date. An extra darning needle will come in handy here. Alternatively, bring your own knit project and just come soak up the fun!
Of course, this event is open to knitters and crocheters alike. And let it be known, there will be prizes for “rare and special sightings” of knitting spouses, triple generational parties and perhaps even crowning of a knit-king. Complimentary compliments will be paid to anyone in impressive knitwear.
‘Old Manolis and the Sea‘ will be installed on June 8th kicking off a celebratory week highlighting World Oceans Day and International Yarnbomb Day, so there couldn’t be a better time to visit Twillingate, even if you live just down the arm.
You know it’s going to be a good time; we’ve got yarnbombs, icebergs and public knitting, oh my!
